A scholarship enquiry should distinguish a published opportunity from an award actually made to you. Begin with the provider's current eligibility and terms, then check what the support covers and how it is documented. The official examples below explain those distinctions without promising an award, amount or application outcome.
Germany: funding opportunities are distinct from tuition policy
DAAD says international students can apply to scholarship organisations, including DAAD and other funding bodies, and points readers to its scholarship database for suitable offers. That overview does not establish eligibility for a particular Indian applicant or confirm a currently open call. [DAAD-S]
DAAD separately describes the normal tuition position at state institutions: bachelor programmes and most master programmes generally have no tuition, with continuing education and private-institution exceptions. Baden-Wuerttemberg charges non-EU tuition for specified degree programmes, excluding doctorates, and Bavarian institutions may also charge non-EU/EEA tuition. Semester contributions and living expenses remain. A tuition policy is not a scholarship award. [DAAD-F]
For financial proof, DAAD lists receipt of a recognised scholarship among possible evidence alongside other forms of funding. It advises checking the relevant mission for the applicable amount and purpose of stay; an application for funding is not proof of receipt. [DAAD-F]
Slovakia: distinguish a study stay from assumed degree funding
The European Commission profile describes the National Scholarship Programme of the Slovak Republic as supporting study, research and teaching stays for international students, doctoral candidates and researchers. It also mentions bilateral and mobility opportunities. The profile is a starting point, not confirmation that an Indian applicant meets a current scheme's detailed criteria. [SK-E]
UK: an official sponsorship needs evidence
GOV.UK says official financial sponsorship can be used as funding evidence for the Student route. If it is not recorded on the CAS, a sponsor confirmation letter is needed. The guidance specifies the date, sponsor identity and contact details, duration, and the amount provided or confirmation of full fee and living-cost support. This is a visa evidence rule, not a promise that a sponsor will select an applicant. [UK-F]
Italy: keep the missing award evidence visible
The Bengaluru consulate page explains institution-specific admissions and tuition fees. It does not provide the current regional DSU eligibility call or verify an award amount. This guide therefore publishes no Italy scholarship amount, household threshold or renewal-credit rule. [IT]
Planning questions
Before applying, record the actual award provider, eligible nationality and study level, current call, closing date, coverage, payment timing and any renewal conditions. Seek clarification when the terms are ambiguous. Do not pay for a study plan that depends on an award merely because an overview mentions funding opportunities.
Frequently asked questions
Does a scholarship overview establish my personal eligibility?
No. A general official overview points to opportunities. Check the current scheme rules for your nationality, study level and circumstances before treating an award as available to you.
What UK sponsorship evidence is needed if the CAS does not record it?
GOV.UK requires a sponsor confirmation letter with the specified identity, contact, duration and funding details. Read the full guidance for the applicable case.
